Andrew Tackett is one of the most exciting young prospects in the sport, and he’s just been promoted to BJJ black belt by Rodrigo Cabral. It should come as no surprise that Tackett has just been promoted, given that he became the IBJJF no gi world champion at brown belt just recently. He’s part of an esteemed group, as Jacob ‘The Hillbilly Hammer’ Couch was promoted to black belt on the podium of the event after he also won a world title at their level.
Andrew Tackett is perhaps best known as the younger brother of William Tackett, but he’s been making just as many waves in the sport as his brother did a few years ago. Shortly before William made his ADCC debut at ADCC 2022, Andrew was competing in the ADCC Open. He emerged from that event with the best performance of the day by winning both his weightclass and the absolute division in style. This wasn’t anywhere near the first time that Andrew has shown up on the radar though, as he also competed on Who’s Next at the beginning of the year. There he managed an incredible underdog victory over the gigantic John Danaher student Dan Manasoiu, submitting him in a no time-limit match.
Andrew showed then that the talent for Jiu-Jitsu doesn’t stop at his older brother, and he’s just as dedicated to the sport as he is. Andrew and William Tackett aren’t alone either, as they also have a younger brother in Caleb Tackett. Caleb also competed at the ADCC Open and was unable to reach the podium like his older brother. This is nothing to be ashamed of though, seeing as Caleb was still under 16 at the time and was coming up against fully grown adults. At the same time that Andrew Tackett was promoted to black belt, Caleb was also promoted to blue belt and he’s already someone to watch out for in the future.
