Who’s Number One (WNO) routinely put on some of the best events on the competitive Jiu-Jitsu circuit but the promotion has really kicked things into high gear, first with the announcement of their upcoming Championships event, and now with the revelation of who will be competing in the female 115lbs division. This is the second out of a total of five divisions to have the full lineup revealed and the first female one, as the first impressive announcement was for the stacked men’s Lightweight division.
The first female division is equally impressive, with one of the key announcements being the return of Tammi Musumeci, Mikey’s equally-talented sister who will be competing alongside her brother for her first Jiu-Jitsu matches in two years. She will not have an easy path to glory at the WNO Championships however as her division also features a pair of exciting IBJJF world champions in Amanda ‘Tubby’ Alequin and Mayssa Bastos. Despite only being in their mid-twenties, these three women actually represent some of the more experienced competitors in the division along with Silver Fox black belt Danielle Kelly.
The rest of the field are incredibly young and equally talented, with 10th Planet black belt Grace Gundrum making an appearance and opening up the opportunity for intriguing rematches with both Kelly and Bastos. Alongside her is Alex Nguyen and Jessica Crane, both of whom are well-known for their dominance in the kid’s divisions before eventually coming of age and competing against adults. Finally, the first black belt to ever come from the Art of Jiu-Jitsu children’s program, Jessa Khan, will be representing the Mendes brothers in style and looking for a big win here.
Unlike the men’s division where there are some firm favorites to take home gold, the women’s 115lbs division is truly wide open. Any one of these eight phenomenally talented women could conceivably beat the others and go home as the inaugural WNO 115lbs Champion.
The full 115lbs edition of the Who’s Number One (WNO) Championships will be available to watch live on September 25th and 26th, along with every other division, on FloGrappling, click here to subscribe and watch.
