Mark Zuckerberg is apparently getting back on his quest to become a well-rounded martial artist and has brought in elite MMA fighter Merab Dvalishvili for a sparring session to help him achieve that goal. It’s been a pretty long road for Zuckerberg so far, as he’s been involved with both Jiu-Jitsu and MMA for several years after falling in loving with the two sports shortly after the pandemic. As one of the richest men in the world he’s been able to have the freedom to train reliably on a regular basis with access to some of the best strikers and grapplers in the world.
This allowed Zuckerberg to progress fairly quickly and it wasn’t long before he entered his first Jiu-Jitsu tournament at white belt, where he had a decent performance. Starting the aport in his late 30s meant that he was never going to be an elite competitor by any stretch of the imagination, but he’s done well to get where he is. Zuckerberg competed in both gi and no gi and came away with a gold and silver medal, competing against other white belts in the master 2 lightweight division. In recognition of his tournament win and his time spent developing his skill on the mats, Zuckerberg was promoted to blue belt just a few months later.
He then experienced one of the worst parts of life as a martial artist when he suffered an ACL injury that required surgery and forced him to take time off to recover. Now it seems like he’s back to full health though, as he’d taking part in fairly hard sparring sessions with some of the world’s best fighters. Dvalishvili is the former UFC bantamweight world champion and only recently lost the title, having had a three-fight title-reign that spanned almost the entirety of 2025. He holds a 21-5 professional MMA record overall and will likely remain at or near the top of the bantamweight division throughout the next year and beyond.
