Mark Zuckerberg has been taking an increasing interest in BJJ, and now he’s found himself another great training partner in popular podcast host Lex Fridman. Although Fridman is obviously best-known for his work as an interviewer and for getting into some fantastic conversations with interesting individuals, he’s also a veteran BJJ practitioner. Fridman is actually a first degree BJJ black belt and he’s even competed pretty frequently during his journey through the belt ranks in the past.
That’s something that Fridman actually has in common with Zuckerberg, as the social media kingpin recently made his debut in BJJ competition with a win and a loss in a local white belt competition. Naturally, that tournament performance attracted a ton of attention due to Zuckerberg’s status as one of the world’s richest men. He’s still incredibly early on in his martial arts journey, as he only really started training anything just a few years ago during the pandemic. Many people were left wondering just how involved he was with BJJ and MMA when he first made the revelation, but his desire to step on to the mats to compete has shown that he must be at least somewhat serious about the sport.
While Zuckerberg normally trains under veteran coach Dave Camarillo, he’s also been seeking out other training partners recently too. In fact he recently had a sparring session with one of the best grapplers on the planet, Mikey Musumeci. Now Lex Fridman has joined the ranks of more experienced BJJ black belts who’ve been able to get a few rounds in with Mark Zuckerberg, and it’s interesting to see how it unfolded. While it’s much like any other friendly sparring match between training partners with a huge skill difference, it’s also strange to see one of the richest men on the planet as part of it.
