Popular streamer Adin Ross recentky took part in a grappling session with reigning UFC lightweight world champion Islam Makhachev. It all started because Ross was interviewing Makhachev at the famous UFC Performance Institute, where most of the best fighters in the world have trained at one point or another. After spending some time talking, the two men decided to move in to the cage so that Makhachev could share some of his grappling skills. Any UFC world champion has to be a good grappler just to get to that point, but Makhachev in particular is known for winning fights on the ground above all else.
Makhachev started out by demonstrating the twister to Ross, educating him in just how painful the spinal lock really is. Makhachev then decided to teach Ross how to actually control opponents while on their back, even making a point of specifically telling him to cross his legs at the ankles. As Ross doesn’t have any grappling experience, he doesn’t know any better and happily takes Makhachev’s advice. That’s when the most predictable thing happens and Makhachev locks his legs over Ross’ own and bridges in to apply that famous rudimentary ankle-lock, causing Ross to shout in pain and tap very quickly.
This isn’t the first time that a famous streamer has had a grappling session with one of the best fighters on the planet, and obviously it never goes in their favor. There has been one streamer who’s had an actual sparring session with an experienced grappler and ended up doing surprisingly well though, as Kai Cenat gave a great account of himself in a friendly Car Jitsu match. The standard of grappling in the UFC, even well before the highest level like Makhachev, is obviously in a completely different league to what you would see in Car Jitsu though of course.
