Elite wrestler and now MMA fighter Gable Steveson has just decided to share some of his training footage, including a grappling session with legendary UFC double champion Jon Jones. This isn’t the first time that the two men have worked together of course, as Steveson famously travelled down to Jones in order to help him prepare for the Stipe Miocic fight at UFC 309. That was one of the most impressive training camps ever seen in MMA, as Steveson was also joined by multiple-time ADCC world champion Gordon Ryan too. Clearly it paid off; Jones knocked out Miocic in the third round to successfully defend the UFC heavyweight world title.
Now the shoe is on the other foot though, with Jones returning the favour and helping Steveson prepare for the next stage of his MMA career. Although Jones hasn’t officially retired from the sport, he’s 38 and has not stepped back in the cage since that win over Miocic. Even that was one of just two fights that Jones has had over the last 6 years and Dana White did previously claim that Jones was retired. Fans are clamouring to see him face the reigning heavyweight world champion Tom Aspinall, but that fight looks less and less likely as time goes on.
Steveson is at the other end of his career though; having won his professional MMA debut in dominant fashion at LFA 217 just a few months ago. He’s already won his second fight since then and even enjoyed a successful detour into Dirty Boxing for one fight there too. Now Steveson is 2-0 in professional MMA and is preparing to fight Hugo Lezama at MFL 3 on February 21st, 2026. Lezama is a veteran fighter with a 11-3 record that includes 9 finishes, so this is set to be Steveson’s toughest test yet. With a gold medal from the Olympics and training partners like Jones to help him, there isn’t much that Steveson hasn’t seen before though.
Gable Steveson shared the footage of him grappling with Jon Jones in training in a recent post to his official Instagram account:
