Conor McGregor recently shared some footage of him getting in some grappling with his young son, Conor Jr, as they were celebrating New Year’s Eve. Although he’s always been a striker first and foremost during his MMA career, McGregor has spent plenty of time working on his grappling over the years. Obviously it’s a necessary pursuit for any MMA fighter who plans on competing at the highest level of the sport, and not just because of the opponents they will face. It’s good practice to be well-rounded and McGregor has thrown himself into grappling over the years, even being promoted to black belt in BJJ a little over a year ago.
McGregor’s son isn’t the only who’s been training lately though, as Conor Senior was also seen hitting the mats again just a few months ago. There’s no news yet on whether there’s any bigger purpose behind him choosing to do that, or choosing to release the footage of his sparring. He remains one of the biggest stars in the MMA world though and it’s not hard to imagine that he might make another return to the sport at some point, especially seeing as there would undoubtedly be a lot of money there for him to make and no shortage of willing opponents.
It would be tough right now though of course, as McGregor is coming off back-to-back losses and hasn’t fought in over 3 years. His last two fights were both against Dustin Poirier and he lost by TKO both times, marking the only times in his career that he’s lost in that fashion. Stretching back further, McGregor has had just 4 MMA fights since the end of 2016 and he’s gone 1-3 with all of those losses coming by way of finish. He still has time in his combat sports career at the age of 36 of course but as a lighter fighter, there’s not a whole lot of time left.
