A grappling match between two BJJ black belts has gone viral recently, because both of them were wearing suits for the duration of their match. The event was staged by Pit Boss Grappling, a brand new promotion that hosts open tournaments in a pit structure with slanted walls. Not only was their event a huge success, but this particular match has drawn a ton of attention at the same time. It’s not every day that people get to see two very talented grapplers competing wearing anything other than a gi or a some variation of the regular no gi uniform, so it’s not hard to see why people find it so interesting.
Although it remains to be seen whether the promotion is going to keep putting on BJJ matches with black belts grappling in suits, it’s clearly something that people would be interested in seeing again. Although it might be tricky to find a regular supply of competitors willing to try it out, there’s always some who find new takes on the sport like this fun and might want to test themselves in a different way. As far as unusual grappling formats go, competing wearing a suit isn’t even the most bizarre thing that’s become popular on the internet in recent years.
Car Jitsu started out as something fun that the majority of people didn’t really take seriously but in the years since it first became a thing, it’s carved out an actual fanbase. It’s grown even more popular recently thanks to streamer Kai Cenat and other figures giving it some promotion, and it’s not hard to imagine that grappling in suits could take a similar route. It all depends on whether Pit Boss Grappling actually wants to push the format or not, but they definitely have the opportunity to do so if they choose and it could prove to be a good decision for the young promotion.
