The ADCC Sao Paulo Open 2024 took place on March 10th, 2024 and there was a great mix of experienced grapplers competing alongside talented youngsters. The tournament took place just one day after the second ADCC South American Trials 2024, so naturally there was a ton of Brazilian competitors stepping on the mats. They weren’t alone though, and there was actually a handful of grapplers from further away who managed to stand on top of the podium too. Dinu Bucalet was one of the most notable non-Brazilian competitors to emerge victorious, as he won the under 76kg division after an impressive performance.

Nicolas Renier also managed to come away with a gold medal in the under 83kg division, winning a series of matches against tough opposition. The squad that Melqui Galvao brought with him won a pretty big haul of medals, with several top prospects registering big wins in their divisions. Evellyn Azevedo was the only female champion representing the team, but she won double gold to make up for that. Their biggest presence was at under 70kg though, where Galvao’s students occupied all three places on the podium.
