Popular UFC veteran Molly McCann will be making her promotional debut at Polaris 26 on November 4th, 2023 and she will be facing Julia Scardone at the event. It’s a surprising choice for McCann given that she has always been known for her striking during her professional MMA career. She became known for exciting finishes on the regional MMA circuit in the UK, putting together an impressive 7-1 record in her first three years as a professional before she got the call-up to the UFC in 2018. She had a tough test set up for her UFC debut though, as she was booked against veteran grappler and submission specialist Gillian Robertson.
McCann was submitted by Robertson in her UFC debut but she bounced back and has gone on to enjoy a pretty successful career in the promotion’s flyweight division. She had clearly spent some time working on her grappling and had managed to improve her record to 13-4 by the time that UFC 281 came around. That’s where she was matched up with another of the division’s most talented grapplers, Erin Blanchfield. McCann left that fight with a submission loss in the first round, and the difference in skill on the ground was clearly pretty large.
She tried to bounce back against Julija Stoliarenko at UFC on ESPN+ 82, but ended up with a brutal submission loss in the first round instead. Now it seems like Molly McCann might be looking at Polaris 26 as the perfect opportunity to sharpen her grappling skills ahead of her next UFC fight. Carlson Gracie Hull’s Julia Scardone will be the woman to welcome her to the promotion and with plenty of experience training alongside some of the best grapplers in the UK, it’ll be a great test for McCann before she steps back in the cage.
