Who’s Number One 24 is scheduled for June 20th, 2024 and FloGrappling has just announced a pair of fantastic title-fights for the event. They also announced a heavyweight superfight between Luke Griffith and Victor Hugo, but no doubt most of the attention will be on the featherweight and middleweight championship matches. All three of these matches were announced during the live broadcast of Who’s Number One 23, and they were later confirmed on the promotion’s social media accounts. If that and other past events are anything to go by then there will only be more elite competitors announced for the event over the next few weeks.
The first title-fight will see reigning featherweight champion Diego ‘Pato’ Oliveira putting his title on the line against Fabricio Andrey. This will actually be Oliveira’s first title-defense, and he really couldn’t have picked a tougher test for his debut as the defending champion. He won the belt by beating Diogo Reis after he was injured during their match at Who’s Number One 21, and his only other match on the promotion’s mats since then has actually been as a title-challenger again. He moved up in weight to become the first double champion at Who’s Number One 22 by submitting Dante Leon for the lightweight belt.
The second title-fight will be for the middleweight title, although Tye Ruotolo vacated the belt so there will be no defending champion. Instead, Jacob Couch will be competing for the title against Francisco Lo and the winner will become only the second person to ever wear the belt. Couch is the only one who has competed at WNO lately, and he’s coming off an impressive submission win over Sebastian Rodriguez at Who’s Number One 22. Lo hasn’t had quite the same fortune in his no gi matches lately though, as most recent appearance was a submission loss to Kade Ruotolo at ONE Fight Night 21.
