The ADCC Tijuana Open 2023 took place on July 1st, 2023 and there were several top grapplers who managed to reach the podium at the event. Along with the elite BJJ competitors who took to the mats, there was also a multiple-time ADCC veteran competing in the men’s over 100kg division. John Hansen put on a great performance and won three matches in order to claim gold at that weight, continuing his excellent run under ADCC rules. Hansen has shown exactly why ADCC Opens are so valuable, because top competitors like him can get more practice in under that ruleset than they ever would have before.
Another familiar face from past ADCC Open events competed in the under 70kg division, as Dominic Mejia put on an absolutely flawless display. Mejia won the ADCC Mexico Open earlier this year by submitting all of his opponents and he did exactly the same thing here. He submitted three competitors in less than three minutes in total, winning gold and reconfirming that he’s one to watch for the upcoming cycle of ADCC trials. In the under 91kg division, Matheus Lutes put in a great performance too by taking home a gold medal without conceding a single point in his matches.
