Tom Hardy is reportedly gearing up for more competition and he’s been training alongside John Danaher during the lead-up as well. Hardy made headlines earlier this year when he was spotted competing in a local BJJ tournament in England, putting his skills to the test in a blue belt division and coming away with a gold medal as a result. The Hollywood star has been training BJJ for quite some time and he actually works incredibly closely with Reorg, a charity founded by Royal Marine Sam Sheriff that focuses on bringing BJJ to those who have serious, life-altering injuries or are suffering from PTSD and depression.
Hardy has competed again since then and is now already signed up to another two tournaments before the end of 2022. In fact, Hardy is due to compete in back-to-back weekends in December for two different organizations. The 45 year-old actor has signed up for the 79.5kg (175.3lbs) Master 3 blue belt division at the No gi British Jiu-Jitsu Open on December 3rd and the 185lbs Seniors blue belt division at Grappling Industries London, where he will be competing in both the gi and no gi round-robin tournaments.
While Hardy is undoubtedly the most active out of the legions of famous faces that have taken up BJJ, he’s not alone in competing as ‘Saved by the Bell’ star Mario Lopez has also been seen winning gold medals at IBJJF opens at the same belt level. Hardy has kept himself relatively low-profile in the BJJ world over the first few years that he’s been training but now that he’s been noticed competing on several occasions, it’s naturally getting a little harder for him to fly under the radar on the mats.
John Danaher shared the photo of him alongside Tom Hardy after a hard training session in a recent post to his official Instagram account:
