Famous actor Tom Hardy has just been promoted to purple belt in BJJ after a string of successful competition performances at blue belt. Although Hardy is just one of many celebrities who have fallen in love with BJJ over the years, he’s quickly become one of the most prolific competitors out of any of them. Joining the likes of celebrity BJJ competitors like Zoltan Bathory and Mario Lopez, he started competing at blue belt in 2022 and has quickly put together an impressive collection of gold medals from tournaments all around the UK. He won his first tournament in impressive fashion and the resulting footage went viral, as many people might not have been aware of just how long that Hardy has been training in the sport.
Hardy is one of the most popular English actors in the world, and he rose to fame after a breakthrough leading role in ‘Bronson’ in 2008 before playing an MMA fighter in ‘Warrior’ in 2011. Since then, his career has gone from strength to strength and he’s played some of the most popular figures of the last decade. He played the titular character in ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ and perhaps most famously, Bane in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, before going on to lead the ‘Venom’ series of films. Naturally, a career in film means constant travelling around the world for new projects which can make keeping to a regular training regime difficult.
Hardy has managed to not only keep up his training but also use that travelling lifestyle to his advantage by training alongside some of the best there is in other countries, like John Danaher. These kinds of experiences have no doubt helped up him when it’s come time to step on the mats in competition, and might explain why he’s managed to earn several gold medals. Tom Hardy has barely had any time off as he continues to compete in BJJ pretty regularly too, in fact his most recent gold medal came just a matter of weeks before he was promoted to purple belt in the sport.
The news that Tom Hardy had been promoted to purple belt in BJJ was originally revealed in a cryptic story that he posted to his official Instagram account, before being confirmed by the belt manufacturer that he tagged in a follow-up post to their official Instagram account:
