Tom Hardy is without a doubt one of the most active celebrities in the BJJ scene, and he’s just won a gold medal in another tournament. While there’s a rising number of celebrities getting involved with BJJ, not many of them roll and train with the general public and even fewer still have ever gone out there to compete. Hardy is actually one of a handful of exceptions to this, along with other popular figures like Mario Lopez. Having the guts to put everything on the line in competition is something worthy of respect for anyone, but there’s an extra layer that comes along with it for celebrities.
Naturally, there’s a lot more attention focused on them when they hit the mats and their opponents are going to do everything they can to earn a win against a popular figure. Hardy made waves when he was first spotted competing in August 2022, but he has stayed consistently active since then and has been working hard to continue both training and competing. While the English actor generally trains and competes in England, he’s even travelled as far as Austin, Texas to train alongside some of the biggest names in the sport like John Danaher.
Hardy isn’t just in it for his own personal benefit either, as he’s actually been working as an ambassador for veteran’s BJJ charity Reorg as well. It’s great to see celebrities getting more involved in the sport as they naturally draw more attention to it from the general public, which in turn brings more people into the sport as well. It’s a huge factor in the growing popularity of BJJ, which is only a good thing as it means that gyms survive easier and top competitors get paid better.
Tom DeBlass shared the news that Tom Hardy had won another BJJ tournament in a post to his official Instagram account. Hardy actually commented on the post himself and had this to say:
“That man Mihail Secara (his opponent) is very strong with a huge and kind heart much respect to him I got humbled a lot today. Won and lost. I also had an amazing time too with my team, Reorg Charity.”
