It was the night before Matt Serra was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame and he was confronted by an angry drunk at a restaurant, so naturally things went about as well for the drunk as could be expected. Serra was a popular fighter and he remains one of only two men to ever manage to defeat the legendary Georges St-Pierre. He had a solid career as a Lightweight in the UFC initially and even competed in the Lightweight tournament to crown a new champion after the reigning champion Jens Pulver left the promotion.
He earned the opportunity to challenge Georges St-Pierre for the Welterweight title by winning The Ultimate Fighter 4: The Comeback and he took full advantage of the window he had. He managed to make one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time submit to strikes after just a little over three minutes of fighting. Although Serra wasn’t able to win the rematch against St-Pierre and he retired from competition just a few years later, he still remains one of the sport’s most popular fighters.
It’s that fight that saw him become the greatest underdog story in UFC history and created a moment that will be remembered for years to come. As a result, he became one of a select few fighters to be inducted in to the UFC Hall of Fame and traveled to attend his induction ceremony on 5th July, 2018. The night before that happened, Matt Serra was confronted by an angry drunk in a local restaurant and quickly restrained the man without much difficulty at all.
While this isn’t the only example of an angry drunk confronting an experienced fighter without knowing and paying the price for it, there’s something uniquely hilarious about this incident with Matt Serra. At one point Serra is sitting in mount, controlling the man’s hands without much effort at all, and asking him to calm down. The man then responds by shouting “I’m gonna f**k you up!” while being rendered completely unable to move out from underneath Serra or throw any strikes.
