It’s been almost a decade since Joe Rogan receives his 10th Planet black belt from his long-time friend, training partner, and coach, Eddie Bravo. This was just a matter of months before Rogan received his black belt in BJJ from Jean-Jacques Machado, who also happens to be the same man who gave Bravo his black belt in the art immediately after the incredible performance at ADCC 2003 that immediately made him one of the biggest names in Jiu-Jitsu.
Shortly after his run at ADCC 2003, Bravo founded the 10th Planet organization and quickly grew the affiliation to one with over a hundred schools in several different countries. It was after almost a decade of this development that Bravo awarded potentially his most-famous student with his black belt, and certainly one of his closest friends. Since then, Bravo has also developed a number of elite grappling organizations like EBI, Combat Jiu-Jitsu, and most recently an all-female promotion called Medusa.
Rogan on the other hand has had even more monumental growth in his own arena, slowly working his way toward having the single-most influential podcast on the planet, The Joe Rogan Experience. With guests from a wide range of backgrounds, he still dedicates a large portion of his podcast to grappling and combat sports in general with guests like Gordon Ryan, Dan Gable, Craig Jones, and his ever-present MMA show with over a hundred professional fighters.
