Tayane Porfirio has just announced that she will be returning to Alliance Jiu-Jitsu after having originally left the team around five years ago. Although Porfirio started out her BJJ journey under other teams, she initially joined Alliance in 2014 as a purple belt who was still relatively unknown. It was there that she became one of the top female colored belts in the sport and enjoyed a meteoric rise through the ranks, eventually being promoted to black belt by Alexandre Paiva in 2016. Porfirio immediately began to make her name at the highest level of the sport and won an IBJJF grand slam on her very first attempt in 2017.
Although Porfirio won double gold at the IBJJF World Championship the following year as well, she failed a PEDs test and was suspended from IBJJF competition for four years. She left Alliance Jiu-Jitsu shortly after that and although she didn’t stop competing entirely, the opportunities were not as frequent for Tayane Porfirio. She made her return to IBJJF competition in 2023 and has since made an appearance at a number of major events. She’s made the return to Alliance shortly before her next superfight as well, as she’s due to compete against Giovanna Jara at BJJ Stars 14: The History in just one week’s time.
She also spoke to Tatame and explained her decision to return to the competition team that she represented for so long:
“I am announcing my return to Alliance. I was away for a while, but a good daughter returns home. I am back here and on December 7th, I will compete in my first championship for Alliance again. I’m counting on your support, whether you’re there in person or watching online. I will be at BJJ Stars.”
