UFC Vegas 95 took place on August 10th, 2024 and BJJ legend Talita Alencar was working hard to deliver results in the very first fight of the night. She was opening the preliminary card against Stephanie Luciano, and this was actually a rematch of a fight from a year ago. Alencar and Luciano first met at Dana White’s Contender Series in 2023 and that fight went to a draw after going all three rounds. Both women ended up being signed to the UFC after that fight and Alencar won a decision over Rayanne Amada at UFC on ESPN+ 91 just a few months later.
Luciano on the other hand had a few fights fall through, so she was actually making her promotional debut in the rematch. The two women went through all three rounds again but this time Luciano was able to outwork Alencar on the feet consistently. Alencar is one of the best grapplers in the world but she wasn’t able to get the fight to where she would have an advantage, while Luciano’s huge reach advantage was a clear factor. Luciano won the unanimous decision in her debut and got some revenge, while Alencar moved to 1-1 in the UFC and will be looking to bounce back in her next fight.
