EBI 22 is scheduled for December 14th, 2024 and it will feature an excellent welterweight tournament with some of the best grapplers around in the lineup. The event will form part of the first ever Jiu-Jitsu Overdose, a four-day professional grappling extravaganza which will play host to every single one of the promotions under Eddie Bravo’s banner. The opening day will feature a qualifier tournament that will determine the final competitor for this bracket and the Combat Jiu-Jitsu world championship taking place on the final day. Although that 16th wildcard spot is still available, the other 15 spots in the tournament have already been allocated.
The first competitors confirmed for the lineup were enough to guarantee that there would be plenty of action at EBI 22, but the full lineup has added even more fuel to the fire. The unique EBI ruleset can take some getting used to but that shouldn’t be a problem for several competitors here, as they’ve had a ton of experience in the format. EBI 19 was their last welterweight tournament, and both the reigning champion and the other finalist will be coming back for another chance at glory. Alan Sanchez won that title in 2022 and he beat Oliver Taza in the final to do it, but they aren’t the only big names returning.
Nick Ronan made it to the semi-final and John Combs was a quarter-finalist at EBI 19, and they’re both coming back too. They’ll be joined by veterans Jim Alers and Kevin Beuhring, while elite B-Team Jiu-Jitsu competitor Kieran Kichuk is also going to be one to watch. Two exciting prospects are also involved in the tournament, Davis Asare and the very young Jett Thompson. Caleb Crump and Aaron Wilson also have plenty of experience and will be challenging opponents for anyone, while the bracket is going to be rounded out by the equally tough Mike Wacker, Louis Accaria, and Oscar Canario.
The full tournament lineup for EBI 22: The Welterweights was announced in a recent post to the promotion’s official Instagram account:
