It’s been quite a while since Spyder BJJ has put together any tournaments but the Korean promotion is back in action on February 12th, 2023 with two stacked gi tournaments in the men’s under 65kg and under 75kg divisions. When they were more active, Spyder BJJ had a reputation for putting together fantastic tournaments with big prize money on the line that attracted some of the best gi competitors on the planet like Leandro Lo, Nicholas Meregali, and Kaynan Duarte.
Now the promotion is back, and it looks like not much has changed in the way they operate. Spyder BJJ has put together two brackets of eight fighters in each weightclass, and they will be competing under IBJJF rules in seven minute matches. It’s difficult to pick a favourite in the 65kg division, with Fabricio Andrey, Samuel Nagai, Lucas Pinheiro, and Diego Sodre all looking like potential winners there. None of these men are going to have an easy time once they hit the mats though, as Shane Hill-Taylor, Wanki Chae, Keven Carrasco and Meyram Maquine are all more than capable of winning the event.
The 75kg division is equally stacked, with Andy Murasaki and Marcio Andre seeming like the most likely champions to emerge from the event. Jhonathan Pessanha will present an interesting challenge as a product of the Terere kids project, and he’s going to be joined by fellow Brazilian competitors Lucas Valente and Natan Chueng. There’s more representation for Korea, where the event will take place, in this division too with Inseong Jang, Bon Cheol Koo, and Seung Moon Baek all competing as well. All in all this is expected to be a night of high-level Jiu-Jitsu between sixteen of the world’s top competitors in the lighter weightclasses and fans in attendance will not be disappointed.
The full lineups for the upcoming Spyder BJJ tournaments on February 12th, 2023 were announced in a post to the promotion’s official Instagram account:
