Both of the Ruotolo brothers competed in grappling matches at ONE Fight Night 21 on April 5th, 2024 and they actually won using the exact same submission too. Kade Ruotolo was first on the card because he wasn’t actually defending his ONE Championship title and was instead competing in a catchweight bout against Francisco Lo. It should have been a tough match as Lo is known for pushing the pace and his willingness to face any opponent, but Ruotolo really took the fight to him. The match didn’t even make it to the halfway point before Ruotolo was able to take Lo’s back in a scramble, and he was able to use his grip to lock up a rare arm-in rear-naked choke.
After a few more fights under different rulesets, Tye Ruotolo walked out to the ring to defend his welterweight submission grappling title in the co-main event of the evening. His match against Izaak Michell was supposed to take place a month earlier but was delayed until this event, giving the brothers the opportunity to compete alongside one another. Tye Ruotolo was just as impressive in his performance and he actually finished Michell with an arm-in rear-naked choke as well. He managed to secure the tap 5 seconds faster than his brother and it became clear that this must have been something that they have been working on in the training room.
