Royce Gracie has just offered his services as either a BJJ or an MMA coach to Elon Musk, if he chooses to actually compete in some form of combat sports match against Mark Zuckerberg. It’s truly proof that we live in an incredibly unusual time, as two of the world’s richest men have been going back and forth about a potential Jiu-Jitsu match or MMA fight. Although a lot of that interaction was almost certainly tongue-in-cheek, there also appears to be a small element of seriousness involved in it as well.
Or at least, that’s how large sections of the martial arts world appear to be taking it. Not only has UFC president Dana White reportedly reached out to both men in order to try and book the fight, but several other MMA and BJJ promotions have openly expressed interest in the idea as well. This should come as no surprise either, seeing as celebrity BJJ competitors have always drawn a lot of attention and celebrity boxing matches have become one of the most popular inventions in combat sports history lately. Any form of match between two of the richest men on the planet would undoubtedly be worth a huge amount of money to the promotion that stages it.
If this match does go ahead, someone with the amount of money that Musk or Zuckerberg have will obviously be able to afford the best coaches and training partners imaginable. In fact, Zuckerberg has already spent some time training with multiple-time IBJJF world champion Mikey Musumeci. With that in mind, Musk could do a lot worse for coaching than the man who won the very first UFC event and has gone down in history as one of the pioneers of MMA.
