Top Irish prospect Rosa Walsh has just been awarded her BJJ black belt by the reigning ADCC world champion Ffion Davies, becoming the first person to be promoted under Davies. Walsh has been a popular and prolific competitor all across the UK for quite some time, and has been branching out even further. She actually got one of her biggest tournament wins just a matter of days before Davies won ADCC 2022 in fact, as Walsh competed in the ADCC Open at the same event.
Walsh put in a great performance and managed to win the under 65kg division against some incredibly tough opposition like Helena Crevar and Nathalie Ribeiro. That win was a real defining moment and it appeared that Walsh was ready for the highest level of competition possible. It led to a great opportunity back in the UK as well, as she was given the opportunity to compete for the Grapplefest under 70kgs title. Walsh continued her fine run of form at that event and made another big statement, as she claimed the title with a submission win over Gabi Schuck. Now that Walsh is a BJJ black belt, it’ll be interesting to see what else she’s able to achieve on the competition mats moving forward.
Rosa Walsh announced the news that she had become the first BJJ black belt promoted by Ffion Davies in a post to her official Instagram account. Davies also shared the news and gave the following statement:
“A huge honour to promote Rosa Walsh today, who is more of a sister than a friend at this point. Can’t wait to watch her shine at this new belt, and so excited to see what’s to come. It’s a difficult journey for anyone but watching her overcome every moment of self doubt and persevere onwards has been nothing short of inspiring, along with every incredible win. This also happens to be my first black belt I’ve ever awarded, with permission from my professor JT Torres, Essential BJJ.”
