Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza just lost his boxing match with Vitor Belfort that served as the co-main event of Gamebred Boxing 4 on April 1st, 2023. The pair were scheduled to battle across 6 x 3 minute rounds and the two MMA veterans used every minute of their match to try and put each other away. The first round started relatively slowly but there was palpable tension, as both men have been known for their phenomenal power throughout their careers. Jacare was throwing more shots but Belfort managed to land a few brutal hooks that drew blood at one point.
Round 2 went pretty much the same way, but this time Jacare was attempting to close the distance and clinch up in order to mitigate Belfort’s power. Belfort mostly avoided damage though and continued to connect with a few strong hooks before the round ended. Belfort came out much stronger in the third round though and even sent Jacare to the canvas early on, rocking him a few more times after he managed to stand up. He dropped Jacare once again later on in the round, and although he made it to the end of the round it was clear that he wasn’t going to recover quickly.
Jacare was clearly cautious in the fourth round but his strategy of fighting from inside the clinch was starting to pay off. Vitor Belfort and Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza were starting to have a much more even boxing match at this point, as Belfort was slowing down. Round 5 saw Souza land some good shots but Belfort was still incredibly dangerous and stunned his opponent at several points. By the time the final round started, both men were significantly slower and they had clearly given it their all earlier in the fight. They each rocked each other again, but Belfort likely won this round as well.
In the end all three boxing judges awarded Vitor Belfort the win over Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza, with scores of 58-54, 58-54, and 57-55. It was a clear-cut and convincing win for Belfort, but a solid performance by both men and an entertaining match for the fans in attendance.
