Rodrigo Marello just made history at ONE 161 when he submitted Ruslan Bagdasarian in just fifteen seconds, registering the fastest submission that ONE Championship has ever seen. BJJ black belt Marello was facing the Sambo specialist in the only grappling match of the event, with both men being world champions in their respective disciplines. Marello quickly took away one of the biggest advantages that Bagdasarian would have, in standing grappling, by sitting to guard shortly after the match began.
When Bagdasarian engaged with Marello’s dangerous guard, he was quickly swept and Marello managed to hit an entry in to the classic Caio Terra footlock. He quickly extended in to the footlock and managed to force Bagdasarian to tap as a result. Not only did this mean that Rodrigo Marello set a new record in the ONE Championship cage, but he also managed to become yet another grappler to receive a huge payday by being awarded with a $50,000 prize for earning performance of the night honours.
