It’s quickly becoming a tough time for Fight Sports as the organization is now reeling from multiple sexual assault allegations over a relatively short period of time, and now head coach and founder Roberto ‘Cyborg’ Abreu has responded to one of them, along with elite competitor Vagner Rocha. The specific incident that the pair were responding to was committed by a Fight Sports black belt and coach, Marcel Goncalves, who was accused of engaging in sexual activity with one of his 16 year-old students and has actually admitted that the incident took place.

The incident has been public knowledge for quite some time and Fight Sports quickly separated ties with Goncalves, but ADCC head organizer Mo Jassim recently decided to blow the story wide open by adding a lot of information to the situation after Goncalves was accused and denouncing the actions of Cyborg:

This is what prompted both Roberto ‘Cyborg’ Abreu and Vagner Rocha to release statements on the sexual assault allegation levied at Fight Sports ex-affiliate Marcel Goncalves. Cyborg answered several of Jassim’s accusations and gave further context to some of them, while Rocha restated his position of being completely against the actions of Goncalves and clarifying that he never taught at Rocha’s academy:

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that a member of Fight Sports has had Sexual Assault allegations levied against them as Aaron ‘Tex’ Johnson actually joined the organization after just such an incident. He was accused of rape while training at and representing Unity BJJ but was quickly kicked out as a result, and joined Fight Sports after a stint in rehab. In the time since those statements, further allegations have come to light against yet another Fight Sports coach, Rodrigo da Costa Oliveira, who allegedly sexually abused a 16 year-old student of his.

This was again revealed by Mo Jassim and he also added that he has further stories developing that he will reveal in due time. We will follow the story closely and update you as soon as any further information comes out.
