Rener Gracie and Ryron Gracie have just announced that they will be releasing Gracie Combatives 2.0, an updated version of the classic program that they first produced 13 years ago. It’s a program that was originally designed with complete beginners in mind and it has generally been used to give people the first guidance that they might need to progress in grappling. It appeals to a pretty broad base of people as the course aims to provide people with the fundamental concepts that underpin Jiu-Jitsu while also examining their application in self-defense scenarios.
Gracie Combatives and Gracie University in general received a fair amount of criticism in the early days, but Rener and Ryron Gracie have refined the process over the years and it has largely been accepted. Completion of the course results in people being given a Gracie Combatives belt and with the 2.0 edition being released, this aspect of the course won’t be changing. A large portion of the updates in the course appear to come from the release of ‘The 32 principles’, an attempt by Rener Gracie to narrow down the entirety of Jiu-Jitsu into a number of fundamental elements that make everything work.
According to the recent announcement, Gracie Combatives 2.0 will include a total of 36 hours of content and it will cover 36 core techniques alongside 36 bonus techniques as well. It’s also going to have 20 tips for fighting in a street setting along with “Verbal De-Escalation Strategies”, which is where it focuses more on self-defense scenarios. The new course will be released on February 8th, 2024 and Rener and Ryron Gracie will be hosting a livestream launch party to celebrate it, offering a temporarily reduced price to those who attend.
