Elite grappler Renato Canuto will be making his professional MMA debut at Tuff-N-Uff 143 on April 25th, 2025. He’s wasted no time in getting his career off to a flying start either, as he’s skipped the entire amateur phase that many fighters go through and is jumping straight into the deep end. This is something that Canuto has been planning for quite some time though, so he’s already spent years developing his striking skills. He’s a grappler first of course, but we actually spoke to Canuto about his MMA debut and he was very clear that he wanted to become just as dangerous standing as he already is in the ground.
Canuto was previously under contract with ONE Championship and although he only ever competed in a submission grappling match for the promotion, he was considering making his MMA debut there at one point. Now that he is no longer exclusive to ONE, Canuto has been very busy making the most of his new contract with UFC Fight Pass Invitational. He’s been one of the most frequent competitors that they have on the roster and he’s been very successful so far. Canuto is currently undefeated there and moved to 4-0 after his most recent win over Oliver Taza at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 10.
There’s no news yet on who Renato Canuto will be facing at Tuff-N-Uff 143, but he’s not likely to take an easy opponent for his MMA debut. Canuto has always taken on the biggest challenges possible in his grappling career and as one of the best Jiu-Jitsu competitors in the world, it’ll be tough to find willing opponents. Although his first fight is coming on the regional MMA circuit, Canuto has already said that he plans on pursuing this all the way to the top of the sport. Given that he already has a connection with the UFC, a few wins is all it would take for the world’s biggest MMA promotion to bring him on board.
