Jitsmagazine will be on hand to provide the live results, play-by-play, analysis, and highlights of Polaris 28, which will be streamed live on UFC Fight Pass on Saturday, June 15th, 2024. The main event has undergone some last-minute changes, as it was originally supposed to be a match between Owen Livesey and Yoel Romero. Travel issues prevented Romero from attending and he has been replaced by rising MMA star Baissangour ‘Baki’ Chamsoudinov. There will also be a pair of title-fights to look forward to shortly before the main event, along with a stacked main card and superb preliminary card supporting the show.

Owen Livesey vs Baissangour ‘Baki’ Chamsoudinov
Both men are happy to battle it out on the feet and Livesey drops for a fireman’s carry, but Chamsoudinov sprawls heavily to shut it down. Livesey managesto fight his way through to double underhooks as they go off the mat, and they get reset to neutral. He gets them back again and takes Chamsoudinov off balance, but he can’t get the takedown. Livesey tries another fireman’s carry but Chamsoudinov shuts it down again, before Livesey tries an uchi mata with an overhook. Livesey tries a quick throw but Chamsoudinov stumbles off the mat and gets reset, picking up the battle for dominant position in the clinch. Livesey off-balances Chamsoudinov with a throw-attempt and almost gets hold of his back when he defends, but Chamsoudinov manages to turn back into him.
Chamsoudinov keeps his hips far back to shut down Livesey’s double-underhooks again, and Livesey shoots forward but gets blocked. Chamsoudinov shoots now but he doesn’t over-commit, and he starts picking up the pace now. Livesey hits a clean footsweep and uses it to get to the front-headlock, transitioning to the double-leg while Chamsoudinov defends. He’s able to stay up and he tries a shot of his own, returning fire with a footsweep-attempt of his own too. Livesey sits down and tries to wrestle up when Chamsoudinov engages, but he backs away to stop it. He tries the same tactic again and Chamsoudinov shrugs him off, so Livesey actually pullsguard instead. Livesey gets to deep half-guard and tries to hit a sweep, but Chamsoudinov disengages and Livesey stands up with him as the match ends.

Mateusz Szczecinski vs Levi Jones-Leary
Both men sit to guard and Jones-Leary stands up first, but Szczecinski gets a leg entry off the back of his first good pass attempt. Jones-Leary inverts and threatens to take the back, but Szczecinski disengages and stays safe. Jones-Leary goes back to passing and he’s keeping his hips far away, passing side-to-side and threatening with leg-drags. Szczecinski gets in on the leg again but Jones-Leary is able to invert and free his knee-line, eventually coming back up on top. Another pass attempt by Jones-Leary and another leg attack from Szczecinski but Jones-Leary is disengaging quicker now and is able to defend without giving up top position.
Jones-Leary wraps up the legs and tries to double-leg pass but Szczecinski shoots his hips through to 50/50. Jones-Leary stays standing to defend and reacts quickly when he gets sat down, freeing his knee-line again before Szczecinski can get deeper. Szczecinski hits a great K-guard entry and gets a good bite on the heel but Jones-Leary inverts to escape, with Szczecinski chasing after his back. Jones-Leary defends it and gets back to passing, but Szczecinski gets to work on that K-guard entry again. Jones-Leary waits for a moment and explodes into a back-take but he can’t quite get it, and he reverts to passing. Another leg attack from Szczecinski and Jones-Leary starts trying to smash his legs to the mat, but there’s no time for anything else as the match ends.

Helena Crevar vs Jessika Torttila
Crevar pulls guard early and she’s very aggressive off her back, chasing Torttila’s legs and pressuring her the whole time. She elevates Tortilla and attempts an Aoki lock but Torttila escapes and returns to standing. Torttila dives into a knee-slice but Crevar re-guards and continues chasing the legs, keeping her off-balance and on the defensive. Crevar gets the entry she’s looking for and she exposes the heel, but Torttila stands up and plants her leg to defend. Crevar keeps working and eventually sits her down into 50/50, attacking the heel hook again and Torttila rolls out of bounds defending. They get reset in a neutral position and Crevar threatens another leg-attack, coming up to score with a sweep this time.
Torttila gets top position back after Crevar attacks the legs and it isn’t long before Crevar gets in on an Aoki lock again, but she can’t quite finish it. Torttila dives on a straight ankle-lock but she gets countered with a heel hook and she has to abandon her attack to escape. Crevar tries to set up a calf-slicer and she comes up on top again when Torttila defends, working her way through to a leg-drag. She attacks the back as Torttila turtles and almost traps an arm too, but Torttila is able to defend the choke until the time runs out.

Santeri Lilius vs Ben Bennett
Lilius and Bennett both start battling in the clinch for a minute before Lilius sits to guard, and Bennett starts passing aggressively. Bennett sits to fight for the legs and Lilius stands up, working to flatten him out and eventually working through to side control. Bennett threatens with a buggy choke but Lilius is able to stay safe and force Bennett to expose his back. Lilius hits a clean back-take and starts handfighting for the choke, even cranking it across Bennett’s face more than once. Bennett manages to stand up with Lilius on his back, but Lilius maintains position and keeps fighting for the choke from there.
Bennett eventually has to drop back to the mat and Lilius stays right where he is with the body-triangle, working for the choke again. Lilius cranks on Bennet’s neck a few times and pulls his arm behind his back, briefly attacking the shoulder before his arm slips free. He keeps fighting for the choke but Bennett stands up once again; only for a few seconds this time before the match comes to an end.

Jed Hue vs Stevie Ray
Hue sits to guard after a little wrestling and Ray blasts into a knee-slice pass, but Hue starts attacking the legs. Ray scrambles free and although he gets put on the bottom briefly, he works his way back to his feet quickly. Hue attempts a choi bar before following through to K-guard, but Ray maintains composure and stays safe. He pressures forward and Hue gets the leg entanglement this time, using the threat to come up on top. He passes Ray’s guard quickly but Ray recovers before he can solidify the position, and Hue dives on an arm in the transition. He works towards a choi bar and Ray stays safe again, finding himself in closed guard. Hue transitions to reverse closed guard and he cranks on the toehold, but Ray is able to defend and get back to his feet again.
Hue gets in on the legs again and comes up to sweep this time, diving around Ray’s guard quickly and hunting the armbar. Ray comes up on top and protects his arm, but Hue shoots his legs up high for a triangle choke straight after. Ray pressures in and transitions to a double-under pass, but Hue retains guard well and works towards another leg entanglement. Ray drops back and frees his knee-line again, popping back up to carry on passing. Hue inverts again to attack the legs and he comes up quicker when Ray escapes this time, knee-slice passing straight after. Hue steps into mount but Ray kips and comes back up on top, resuming his passing and coming close with double-unders. Ray dives on to Hue’s back when he turtles and he slips off, but he hits a quick reversal to finish the match on top in side control.

Sam Quinn vs Ellis Younger
Younger shoots in after a little wrestling and Quinn wraps up a front headlock, using it to hit an uchi mata. Younger scrambles and reverses position, pressuring to pass Quinn’s guard and dropping into mount. Quinn tries to use a kipping escape but Younger shuts it down with an ezekiel attempt, before slowly setting up a seatbelt grip and using it to take the back. Quinn escapes but Younger transitions to the top and takes a giftwrap, using it to re-take the back. Quinn escapes again and scrambles to his feet, before sitting to guard and working to attack the legs. Younger wastes no time in passing again though, stepping back into mount and setting up another back-take. Younger starts smothering Quinn and he’s switching between mount and the back very fluidly. He traps one arm with his legs when he moves back to the back, controlling the second one with his hand, and using his free arm to finish one-handed rear-naked choke.

Julian Espinosa vs Jack Sear
Both men sit down at the same time and Sear comes up on top after a little scramble back and forth. He latches on to a guillotine when Espinosa comes up but he can’t finish it, and Espinosa attempts an ankle-lock in the scramble that he can’t finish either. Espinosa is putting up a really high pace in passing attempts before grabbing another ankle-lock, but he bails early and gets back to passing again. Espinosa uses the front headlock to pass but Sear pummels back to guard soon after, and Espinosa almost catches an armbar in a transition a minute later. Sear manages to expose a leg during one of Espinosa’s passing sequences, but Espinosa sits to escape and pops straight back up again after.
Another entry to 50/50 from Sear but Espinosa is immediately on the offense and he forces him to scramble free. Sear is much more active off his back and he gets close on a false reap, but Espinosa takes advantage of him opening up in order to secure a pass. Espinosa is moving round from side control to north-south to maintain top position, but it eventually allows Sear to re-guard. Sear gets in on a leg and puts Espinosa in danger, coming up on top when Espinosa escapes. He latches on to a guillotine again and gets closer this time, but Espinosa frees himself and resumes passing as the time runs out.

Shane Fishman vs Shane Curtis
Fishman sits to guard and Curtis pressures forward, but he has to concede the sweep early to avoid a calf-slicer. He creates some space and stands up, so Fishman sits to guard and starts attacking the legs again. Fishman takes top position when Curtis defends and manages to expose the back, getting a twister-hook quickly. He loops Curtis’ arm around the back of his neck and forces him to tap with a slick twister.

Kevin McAloon vs Fred Greenall
Greenall rushes in to pull guard and McAloon works hard to pass, but Greenall is able to expose his legs. McAloon counters with a back attack but Greenall is attacking with a toehold that slows him down, allowing Greenall to come up on top. McAloon attacks with an ankle-lock and eventually uses it to sweep, getting back to passing frantically for a few minutes. He’s able to create back exposure at one point and takes advantage by sinking in one hook, but Greenall is patient and he manages to work his way up to the feet. Greenall sits back down and after a minute or so he’s able to find 50/50, but McAloon gets an ankle-lock grip and starts cranking on it. Greenall locks up a Toehold of his own and although McAloon abandons his attack to escape, he can’t do so and he’s forced to tap.

Lee Herbert vs Chris White
White pulls guard from in close and gets a double-ankle grip to sweep Herbert, but he doesn’t stay on top long as Herbert hits a reversal. Herbert tries to use a kimura grip to pass but White frees his arm, eventually hitting a nice butterfly sweep as well. Herbert goes for a hip bump and although White defends, Herbert scrambles to top position regardless. A few different passing attempts lead on to Herbert getting around White’s guard, but he chooses to attack the legs instead of securing the position. White frees his leg and comes up on top, before diving on a toehold when Herbert tries to invert. Herbert tries an ankle-lock but White escapes to standing, before dropping back to guard straight after. Herbert gets the kimura grip he was looking for earlier and uses it to transition to a rear-triangle choke from the top. Herbert transitions to an armbar but White escapes and comes up on top, but Herbert steadily works towards another sweep in order to finish out the match on top.

Gary Priestly vs Jake Goldthorpe
Goldthorpe hits an inside-trip but Priestly attacks the legs straight after, only to get countered with a back-take. Goldthorpe can’t secure it though and Priestly is able to take top position, disengaging and standing up with Goldthorpe following him. Goldthorpe sits to guard and elevates Priestly a few times, eventually securing the sweep. Priestly works his way to the feet and Goldthorpe sits to guard, getting a good bite on an ankle-lock. Priestly has to work very hard to escape and finds his way back up, but isn’t there long as Goldthorpe hits a sweep. Goldthorpe dives on the back and Priestly counters with a leg attack, eventually disengaging and standing up. Goldthorpe stands up after briefly playing guard, only to sit down again after a takedown attempt. Priestly dives on the legs and Goldthorpe works his way up again, hitting another inside-trip and taking top position. A slick pass by Goldthorpe and he steps over to take the back, immediately sliding his arm in for the rear-naked choke.

Dominic Dillon vs Danny Hughes
Dillon leaps into a flying triangle choke but slips off and Hughes tries to take his back. Hughes can’t secure it and Dillon pulls him over his head, securing side control. Hughes escapes and attacks the legs, but Dillon is able to free his knee-line and they return to standing. Dillon hits a low ankle-pick but can’t keep Hughes down, and he dives on a single-leg shortly after. Dillon spins out and stays on top, passing and stepping over into mount with head-and-arm control. Hughes gets back to half-guard but Dillon passes again, and Hughes manages to work his way to the feet with the space he gets. Hughes springs into an Imanari roll but he can’t secure the leg and they return to the feet again.
Dillon hits a single-leg but Hughes is able to scramble back up, and Dillon is staying far more active on the feet. He goes for a kani basami and tries to wrestle up when it fails, but they end up disengaging on the feet. Dillon goes for another single-leg but Hughes tries a kani basami of his own, hunting the leg entanglement from the bottom and unable to secure it. Dillon latches on to a Peruvian Necktie in the scramble but the time runs out.

Jack Hampshaw vs Abraham Dannan
Hampshaw sits to guard and Dannan hits a nice saddle entry from the top straight away. A quick escape from Hampshaw and he tries to wrestle up but Dannan shuts it down and starts working to pass again. Hampshaw is working from seated guard and Dannan steps in, ripping on a Toehold that forces Hampshaw to turn and scramble to his feet to escape. Hampshaw sits again but Dannan tries to step into a triangle choke from the top. He can’t secure it but he latches on to a kimura, using it to take Hampshaw’s back.
Dannan gets very close on the rear-naked choke but Hampshaw deals with it well and eventually escapes the position too. Hampshaw is in seated guard again and he works hard to keep Dannan off balance but Dannan stays in control. Dannan sits for a kneebar but bails out when it doesn’t work, diving on the back when Hampshaw tries to work to standing. Hampshaw manages to escape and recover top position, but the time runs out.

Derwanz scores with the single-leg to ankle-pick and uses a head-and-arm control to start passing. She shoots her arm deep and links her arms to submit Lucas with the Japanese Necktie.

Christian Ozbek vs Jack Hassard
Hassard shoots in for a single-leg and gets the takedown but Ozbek is able to sit him and down to 50/50. Hassard wrestles up and scores with a single-leg takedown again, piling on the pressure with his passing game. Ozbek works his way back up and Hassard pulls guard this time, but Ozbek quickly dives on a kneebar. Hassard escapes and after a little guard-play, both men return to the feet. Another single-leg from Hassard but Ozbek pops back up soon after and they start handfighting and battling in the clinch. Hassard pulls guard again and tries to attack the legs, using the threat to scramble back up after a while.
Hassard hits the takedown again but returns to the feet to deal with Ozbek’s threat of a back-take. Hassard pulls guard and Ozbek sits back on the ankle-lock, but Hassard escapes and gets back on top. Ozbek works his way up and when Hassard sits back he dives on a leg attack again, conceding top position when Hassard escapes. Ozbek gets a leg-entry from the bottom and Hassard passes his leg over into 50/50, but Ozbek gets a deep bite on the heel. Hassard keeps turning and manages to hide his heel, threatening a toehold before getting stuck in an ankle-lock as the time runs out.

Sam Barker vs Jamie Faulding
Barker hits an armdrag to single-leg and although Faulding tries to counter with a guillotine, he secures the takedown. He tries to use a head-and-arm control to pass but Faulding gets the sweep and latches on to an armbar immediately to secure the tap.

O’Brien pulls guard early and it takes him just a few seconds to hit a triangle choke off a classic hip-bump sweep set-up. Ball is holding on but O’Brien gets the underhook on the leg and forces the tap.

Craig Young vs Jared Eaton
Young pulls guard as Eaton attempts a takedown, and he starts working from half-guard with the lockdown. Young gets through to single-leg x and manages to sit Eaton down, threatening with a straight ankle-lock and briefly a heel hook too. Eaton escapes and gets back on top, eventually getting a deep underhook and knee-slice passing. He can’t hold position for long, and he dives on a footlock from the top. Young deals with the threat and Eaton gets back to passing again, but neither of them are overly active and they get reset to standing. Eaton pulls guard this time and he’s able to come up on top for a sweep as Young backs away and after a minute or so he’s able to finish the pass again. Young recovers guard and they battle for leglocks briefly but the match ends.

Charles Reindorf vs Arren Gurnhill
Reindorf pulls guard and after a minute or so he’s able to wrestle up, tuning the corner and hitting the sweep. He isn’t on top for long, as Gurnhill returns the favor and wrestles up for a sweep himself shortly after. Reindorf tries to turn into him but Gurnhill shuts it down and secures the pass, although Reindorf does manage to get back to standing eventually. He goes for a single-leg but Gurnhill attempts a guillotine on the way down, switching to a kimura and getting mounted for his efforts. Gurnhill gets the reversal and works hard to pass, getting to mount himself but getting reversed in return shortly after. Reindorf almost passes early but Gurnhill turtles and throws him over the top to get on top, trying to set up an head-and-arm choke straight away. Reindorf escapes and dives on a leglock but it’s too late as the time runs out.
