PGF World Season 9 is really kicking into high gear with week 2, as the race for a spot in the playoffs is starting to heat up. There’s still plenty of time left for anyone to make a run for one of those spots of course, but the front-runners are now starting to build up a lead over the rest. It’s the positions after the very top of the table that are the ones everyone is fighting for; where just one good night is enough to change the order. That happened quite a few times during week 2, and the middle of the league table looks significantly different to last week.
PGF World Season 9 Week 2 Full Results And Recap
It was yet another tough week for the Colorado Wolverines and although they scored twice as many points as they did last week, the gap between them and the other teams is just growing bigger and bigger. It’s already looking virtually impossible that they win the league but if things don’t turn around next week, they’re going to find themselves quickly isolated in last place. At the other end of the table, the Las Vegas Kings maintained their hold over first place but they lost a lot of ground. That’s because the Alabama Twisters had a fantastic week, overtaking the Philadelphia Phenoms and closing the gap to the top down to just 7 points.
Top Performers
Kevin Beuhring is probably the star of week 2; netting a perfect record by ankle-locking Noah McCully and getting a pair of rear-naked choke wins over Caleb Crump and Jared Fekete. Chuy Magana had just as impressive of a performance; as he scored a trio of ankle-lock finishes against McCully, Jake Straus, and Brett Moyer. The final man to win all of his matches this week was Beuhring’s teammate, PGF posterboy Elijah Carlton. Carlton heel hooked Jayden Groner before finishing his night with slick armbar finishes against Derek Rayfield and Cameron Hurd.
Andrew Kochel started out very strong with a heel hook win over Hurd and managed to rally after a loss to ankle-lock Clayton Wimer in his final match of the night, scoring a solid 7 points in total. Austin Oranday is another man who’s closing in on Thompson though; after he locked up a D’arce choke against Sam Schwartzapfel and caught Anthony Salisbury with a very tight Estima lock. The final man to submit two opponents was Travis Haven, who submitted Kochel with a triangle choke and hit a crazy counter-leglock to finish Schwartzapfel.
Other Winners
Despite their best efforts, Jett Thompson still holds on to the second spot after submitting Haven with a rear-naked choke and scoring bonus points when Clayton Wimer was given multiple penalties. Shawn Melanson also kept himself in the mix at the top half of the table with a submission win over Anthony Salisbury, showing off his excellent armbars. The only other winner this week was Caleb Crump, who submitted injury-replacement Armin Bruni with a D’arce choke in his final outing. That makes Crump the highest scorer in the Colorado Wolverines and keeps his playoff hopes alive in the process.
