The regular season period of PGF World Season 8 is almost over, as week 4 has come to an end and there’s just 30 more matches left. There was a crazy amount of finishes this week, as two-thirds of the total matches ended in a submission and several competitor scored a bonus point for a finish in under a minute. There was also a decent amount of controversy too, with penalties being given for unsportsmanlike conduct and JJ Bowers being disqualified for a slam during one of his matches. Although both were the right call as per the PGF rules, that’s never stopped anyone from being unhappy with decisions like those before.

PGF World Season 8 Week 4 Full Results And Recap

The race is heating up from multiple angles now, as Team Dollamur and the Alabama Twisters have fully separated from the rest of the pack. They now find themselves in a two-horse race for the team title and with just 3 points separating them now, every match will be crucial next week. There’s also multiple competitors fighting tooth and nail to take the final spots in the top 8, as a lot of them are just one or two wins away from making it. Then at the top of the league, there are 5 men who have already broken the 30-point barrier and each of them has a good chance of winning the regular season.

Top Performers

Derek Rayfield completed his transition from last-minute replacement to top contender this week, winning all 3 of his matches by submission. He got a pair of chokes against JJ Bowers and Sergio Ardila before quickly heel hooking Dominic Lobo for a huge total score that saw him climb to 3rd place. He wasn’t the only replacement competitor to shine this week either, as Dominic Mejia also submitted every opponent he faced. With chokes against Anthony Gojani and Spenser Ortiz earlier in the night, his ankle-lock against Michael Haynes-Moller brought him into joint 4th place and should be enough for him to make the playoffs unless things go very wrong next week.

Sergio Ardila was another late-replacement who did well, leglocking John Chandler and Anthony Molina to keep his qualification hopes alive. Front-runners Christos Papadelos and Kris Olivo continued their great runs too, as both men also hit a pair of leglocks to stay in 1st and 2nd place respectively. Papadelos submitted CJ Murdock and Gojani and Olivo submitted Jonathan Wilson and Lobo, while their only draw was against each other. The final man to get two finishes was Jett Thompson, who finally got things going after a shaky start by submitting Murdock and Ortiz with chokes to move up to 6th.

Other Winners

Landon Elmore stayed in contention for the top spot with yet another ankle-lock win over Juan Martinez, but the rest of the work for week 4 of PGF Season 8 was done by those hunting a playoff-spot. Matt Masch and Dominic Lobo both stayed in contention with a single win this week, as Masch heel hooked Martinez early on and Lobo caught Michael Haynes-Moller with a tight armbar from a locked-in rear-triangle choke. Haynes-Moller actually only entered partway through the night, as Jordan Wirth withdrew due to what appeared to be a rib injury after getting submitted by a tight arm-in guillotine from Mike John.

Raphael Ferreira also managed to stay within touching distance of the playoffs with one of the most brutal finishes of the season so far; switching from a standing crucifix straight into a rear-naked choke and wrenching on Bowers’ neck hard to force the tap. The only other submission this week came from Anthony Molina, who heel hooked John right at the end of the night. There was a few other points to go around though, due to the disqualification that Bowers was handed in his match with Gojani. It looked like Gojani was going for the back when Bowers slammed him into the mat, getting disqualified for it and handing Gojani 2 points.
