Week 3 of PGF World Season 8 has come to an end and there are some new competitors in the fight for a spot in the playoffs. This is when things always start to come to a head, as a handful of competitors will start running away with the season and only about half the playoff spots are really up for grabs. That means that the competition for those spots gets fierce and everyone starts feeling the pressure as time is quickly running out. The same thing happens in the team standings too, as there’s no more room for error without getting left behind.

PGF World Season 8 Week 3 Full Results And Recap

There was a lot of replacements last week and two more competitors joined the roster this week too, with both of them joining the Alabama Twisters. They both proved to be valuable additions to the team in the very first week, as three submission wins between the two of them have helped keep the Alabama Twisters in the running. It’s still almost anyone’s game as far as the team battle is concerned, with the Tropic Thunders being the only team effectively eliminated. They’re in last place and 39 points behind third; a gap that’s almost impossible to close in the time they have left.

Top Performers

Kris Olivo did it again this week, another clean-sweep of submission finishes in all three of his matches. This has put him in a great position for the playoffs as he’s currently 3rd and with just 2 points separating him and the current leader, he’s a serious threat to win the regular season. The only men above him are Landon Elmore and Christos Papadelos, both of whom got two submission wins this week. Elmore continued his run of ankle-lock finishes against Anthony Gojani and CJ Murdock, while Papadelos hit both a toehold and a kneebar out of nowhere against Nick Sahf and Raphael Ferreira.

One of this week’s replacements also hit two submissions, as Dominic Mejia looked great against Murdock and Anthony Molina when he took their backs and finished them with chokes. Two chokes meant that he scored 13 points in his first week and now has a really good chance at making the playoffs, but the only man he couldn’t submit had a similar run. That man was Derek Rayfield; who ankle-locked Juan Martinez and armbarred Jonathan Wilson to finish just one point ahead of Mejia in the season. That’s the area of the leaderboard that is going to see the most changes next week too, as there are 6 competitors with 12-14 points so far.

Other Winners

Sergio Ardila was the second newcomer this week had a decent first performance too, as he got the ankle-lock finish over Sahf in his very first match. The other single wins in week 3 of PGF World Season 8 came from competitors who’ve already had a chance to settle into the rhythm. Matt Masch heel hooked Zack Schneider in his first match and unfortunately injured Schneider too, causing Wilson to step in and replace him. Masch then got submitted himself in the second match, as Anthony Gojani caught him in a wild standing rear-naked choke. Brady Branscum also got an exciting finish of his own, as he caught JJ Bowers with a kneebar in a quick transition.

Martinez and Ferreira kept their hopes alive with one submission win too, as they both locked up heel hooks against Sahf and Dominic Lobo respectively. The only other man to get a finish this week was early favorite Jett Thompson, who finally got off the mark with an arm-in rear-naked choke in his final match. He also got 4 points from his first two matches as both opponents were given repeated stalling penalties when being defensive and eventually disqualified. Despite the fact that Thompson has just one submission win in 9 matches this season; he still finds himself on 14 points thanks to disqualifications, forfeits, and the performances of his teammates.
