The PGF World Season 8 Playoffs took place on September 10th, 2025 and the final match crowned the promotion’s new lightweight champion. It was an excellent ending to a long season, and each man has had plenty of matches across 5 weeks in order to book their place. There were a few unfortunate changes to the bracket as some competitors were unable to make it to the final even though they earned their shot, with Landon Elmore, Kris Olivo, and Christos Papadelos all having to bow out. That ultimately didn’t matter though, as the bracket was still full of elite grapplers and they all gave everything they had.
Every match in the opening round ended in a finish, with Jett Thompson and Derek Rayfield both submitting their opponents in less than 30 seconds. They met in the semi-final and Thompson came away with the win in EBI overtime, booking his place in the final. On the other side of the bracket; it was Dominic Mejia and Raphael Ferreira who won the opening rounds and just like Thompson, Mejia got his win in overtime. The final was another tough match that required all 3 overtime rounds, but Thompson racked up enough ride-time to leave with the title. Another title was won just before that too, as Maka Vickers hit a brutal triangle kimura from the top on Ally Wolski to become the women’s featherweight champion.
