PGF World Season 7 has gone past the halfway mark and day 3 turned out to be the most action-packed night of the whole season so far. It makes sense too, because the amount of time that competitors have to break into the playoffs is rapidly winding down. At the start of the day, everyone had just 6 matches left and they all knew that it was now or never. Every team is stacked with elite competitors after a successful draft and when they’re all gunning for as many submissions as possible, it was always going to be a very exciting day of matches.

PGF World Season 7 Day 3 Recap

Pedro Sauer and his New Hope Regeneration team started to run away with the team league table on the second day of PGF World Season 7. and although the submissions were much more evenly spread out on day 3, they still maintained a solid lead. It’s far from a foregone conclusion though of course and given that there were 16 submission finishes on day 3, a similar result on the final day of the regular season could see any one of the other three teams steal the win. A handful of competitors have made it very clear that they’re going to be making it to the playoffs, but there’s still everything to play for when it comes to at least half those places.

Top Performers

There were so many submissions on day 3 of PGF World Season 7 that there were quite a few high-scoring competitors. Ryan Aitken stood out even among them as he continued his phenomenal run by submitting all three of his opponents on the day. He submitted Sam Schwartzapfel with a rear-naked choke, Kemoy Anderson with an arm-triangle choke, and Kris Olivo with a heel hook. Paul Ardila also had three submission wins, hitting  an armbar on Caleb Crump, a triangle choke on Anderson, and a lightning-quick straight ankle-lock on Cameron Hurd that also earned him a bonus point.

Kyle Boehm scored in all three of his matches too, heel hooking both Olivo and alternate competitor Jack Bidwell after earning two points when Ernesto Rivera got hit with three stalling penalties. Marcin Maciulewicz also finished two opponents and thanks to his consistent performances every day, he also finds himself in a strong position. He landed a beautiful choi bar to get the win over Hurd in just 42 seconds and took full advantage of Aaron Sheffield stepping in as an alternate by submitting him with a triangle choke when he tried to wrestle up.

Other Winners

Another two competitors enjoyed a pair of submission wins and although they didn’t start out as strong as some of the others, they now find themselves in a great position to make the playoffs. Travis Thomas continued the resurgence he started on day 2 with a triangle choke in just 55 seconds against Bidwell and he closed the day just as strong with a huge submission win over Abraham La Montagne by rear-naked choke. Chris Wojcik is also clearly getting used  to the format now, as he hit a quick ankle-lock against Crump to score a bonus point before landing another against Rivera.

La Montagne got a submission win of his own early on in the day, as he stepped over into reverse closed guard against Anderson and locked up his signature Abe Lock for the finish. His New Wave Jiu-Jitsu teammate Davis Asare made a surprise appearance too, as he was forced to withdraw from a few previous matches due to injury and was not expected to return. He did it in style too, securing a D’arce choke against Bidwell and stepping over into mount to finish it with a ton of pressure. Both La Montagne and Asare have kept themselves in contention for the playoffs, but they’ll both need a strong showing on the final day if they want to make it.
