The ADCC Asuncion Open 2025 marked a big moment for the Paraguayan grappling scene, as it attracted some top talent to battle local competitors on September 6th, 2025. Andre Castro had the most impressive run at the event, as he won the over 100kg division at the intermediete level before challenging himself at the highest level and taking double gold there. Across two weight classes and an absolute division, Castro went 8-0 with a pretty even mix of submission finishes and tough decisions. Kingsway Jiu-Jitsu representative Ramiro Leon stood opposite him in the absolute final after winning the under 100kg division with 3 straight submissions, demonstrating how tough Castro’s opposition was.
There were only two female advanced brackets running and Natalia Battalina won both of them, going 3-0 with 2 submissions on home soil. The only other Paraguayan champion at that level was Mauricio Cespedes, who won the under 91kg division and went 3-1 overall after trying his hand at the absolute. There were a few other standout performances too, like young purple belt Patricio Benitez twking gold in both the intermediate under 70kg and advanced under 76kg brackets with 5 straight wins. Perhaps the most notable name was veteran grappler Marco Queiroz, who beat 4 opponents to win the under 83kg division as a master and an adult competitor.
