Nick Diaz entered into a rehab facility in January 2025 and the first public update to be released since then is overwhelmingly positive. The update was shared by his Athletic Recovery and Reconditioning coach Jose Garcia, who explained that he had now ‘overcome the challenges that previously affected him’. It all seems to be heading in the right direction, which is great news for one of the most popular MMA fighters in the world. There were reports of drug and alcohol addiction in recent years and he eventually checked into a Mexican rehab facility in order to get a handle on things.
Diaz hasn’t fought since his 2021 comeback to the sport against old rival Robbie Lawler, where he suffered a TKO loss in the third round. Prior to that, it had been 6 years since his middleweight debut against Anderson Silva and another 2 years since he fought Georges St-Pierre for the UFC welterweight title. His athletic prime is around a decade behind him at this point and even if his recovery has gone well, it seems unlikely that fans will get to see him fight again. At 42 years old and winless since 2011, it’s probably for the best that Diaz chooses to remain inactive.
Jose Garcia shared the update on Nick Diaz and his stint in rehab in a recent post to his official Instagram account, and it reads as follows:
“Nick Diaz is doing exceptionally well and has finally overcome the challenges that previously affected him. Throughout his struggles, Nick’s family and genuine friends offered unwavering support, while others who claimed to care for him ultimately took advantage of his situation. Fortunately, Nick is now in optimal health and high spirits, thanks in part to the positive influence of a loving partner who values him for who he is, beyond his fame or material possessions.”
“Many of us are deeply invested in Nick’s well-being and desire to see him thrive in life. It is heartening to see Nick’s circumstances improving, and I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who has wished and prayed for his well-being and speedy recovery. God bless us all. Nick still the goat.”
