Nicholas Meregali has just revealed that he is busy producing a brand new gi instructional, that he will be releasing to the public on BJJ Fanatics completely free of charge. Filming instructional content is nothing new of course, the vast majority of experienced competitors either release instructionals on platforms like BJJ Fanatics or create their own subscription services these days. It’s much less common to release that content without a fee though, and Meregali intends to do so in order to give back to the community that has supported him throughout his career.
Meregali is coming fresh off an impressive performance at the latest Who’s Number One event, where he competed in the first gi match of the promotion’s history. There was a lot of excitement around his main event fight with Pedro Marinho as a result, and Meregali certainly didn’t disappoint when he took to the mats. He put on a dominant display of the incredible grappling he’s become known for against Marinho and ended up winning the match by submission with a triangle choke.
Meregali has been quite vocal about wanting to make gi competition more popular than it currently is, and being a part of major superfights like that is all part of the process. Now that he has recently announced that he will not be competing in IBJJF tournaments in the future, fans will have to wait to see him competing in those superfights or maybe grand prix tournaments if they want to see him. With the release of this free instructional, it’s clear that Nicholas Meregali is serious about trying to bring more attention to gi competition and it’ll be interesting to see what effect his efforts have in the coming years.
