Nate Diaz has reportedly been planning on continuing his boxing career by booking a match against fellow UFC veteran Darren Till, but has now pulled put of the matchup. This would have been his first fight of the year and only his third professional boxing match, as the majority of his career has been spent in MMA. Till’s combat sports might have started out differently to Diaz but it’s followed a similar trajectory in recent years, as he was also known for his trash talk in MMA originally before moving on to what appears to be a lucrative boxing career.
Till has had a little more success since moving to boxing though, as he won both of his professional matches this year after also winning an exhibition match last year. Diaz on the other hand has experienced mixed results, dropping a decision to Jake Paul in his debut back in 2023. He has managed to bounce back from that already though, and his sophomore effort was much more successful. That match also went to decision but in his favor, as he beat Jorge Masvidal convincingly almost a year ago. As far as MMA fighters transitioning to boxing goes, this Diaz vs Till would have been one of the more competitive matchups.
Till has obviously been more active than Diaz recently, and he also has the significant youth and size advantage too. Diaz has recently turned 40 and has spent his MMA career alternating between lightweight and welterweight, while Till is only 32 and alternated between welterweight and middleweight instead. That size difference has only grown recently too, as Diaz last competed at 175lbs and Till’s last fight was at Cruiserweight (200lbs). According to Lee Eaton, weight was the reason that Diaz gave for pulling out of the fight.
Darren Till shared the claims that Nate Diaz had pulled out of an agreed boxing match with him in a recent post to his official Instagram account:
“Basically Nate Diaz called the fight on with me he wanted to fight me on August 2. He called everything he called the weight and I accepted, I got straight into camp on Monday and now he’s pulled out of the fight.”
