Biaggio Ali Walsh is the grandson of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali and his MMA career has just taken a turn at PFL 7 on June 27th, 2025, as he was choked unconscious by Ronnie Gibbs. It was only the third fight of Ali Walsh’s professional career, but he also had a lengthy amateur career beforehand. He was always going to be much more of a striker than a grappler but he’s clearly taking the sport seriously and has been developing his skills over the last three years. Ali Walsh started out his amateur run by experiencing just how important grappling was in fact, as he was submitted in his very first fight.
He then went on a run of 6 wins as an amateur, with all of them coming by way of finish and the last 5 all happening under the PFL banner. The promotion clearly saw the value in having him on board, as they invested in him early on in his career and have helped him reach this point. He turned professional a little over a year ago and got a decision win on the PFL vs Bellator card, before adding another knockout to his resume 6 months later. He was coming into this fight with a big wave of momentum behind him, but Ronnie Gibbs wasn’t too far behind him.
Gibbs also had a 6-1 amateur career on the regional MMA circuit and made his professional debut just a few months ago, where he got the knockout win. Gibbs is also more of a striker but he does have a pair of submissions win as an amateur, so he couldn’t be overlooked on the ground. Biaggio Ali Walsh was still the betting favorite at PFL 7 though, and he almost immediately made good on that promise by knocking Gibbs down inside the first minute. Gibbs managed to recover and he made it out of the first round, but he was clearly losing the fight on the judge’s scorecards.
Ali Walsh defended a takedown before the round ended too, so it looked as though he was either going to find the finish or win the decision in the end. He was using his jab to great effect in the second round when suddenly, Gibbs was able to hit a clean takedown and put him on his back. That’s when the tide turned dramatically and Gibbs was landing heavy elbows, making his way to half guard while continuing the onslaught. He kept Ali Walsh under control and set up an arm-triangle choke from there, eventually putting him to sleep when he refused to tap in time.
