2024 marks a new era for top USA MMA and BJJ brand REVGEAR, a global brand who are pushing ever deeper into the world of modern Jiu Jitsu. Their first true full Jiu Jitsu line was released in early 2019 making an immediate impact in America’s premier pro Jiu Jitsu event Fight 2 Win.
The REVGEAR gi in particular were loved by both top coaches and athletes alike, including top names across both the USA, UK and beyond. Robson Gracie Jnr, Joy Pendell, Liam Cann, Angel Lopez, Andre Gomes and UFC legend/BJJ Black Belt Matt Serra not only used the new gis but actively endorsed them.
Like so many other Jiu Jitsu brands, REVGEAR lost over two years of momentum due to events far beyond anyone’s control, as the pandemic halted Jiu Jitsu worldwide which felt like a big blow for Revgear.
But this year marks the next chapter for REVGEAR Jiu Jitsu and we are stoked to announce that we have found a new partner for our online magazine, your very own Jits Magazine now counts REVGEAR Jiu Jitsu as a friend in the industry, we’re certain the collaboration will add a tonne of value to our readers.
REVGEAR’s Background as a BJJ Brand
For nearly three decades Revgear Sports, from Los Angeles, California, has been tested on the mat and as they always put it, “Proven in the cage”. This was especially true in the UFC between 2008 and 2014 where the brand was seen in the famous Octagon on too many fighters to sensibly mention here but notables would be the likes of Dan Hardy, Fabricio Werdum, Renato Sobral, Jimi Manuwa and more recently Stipe Miocic and Henry Cejudo.
In its early years REVGEAR sponsored some of the world’s top Jiu Jitsu fighters of the time such as Marco Ruas, Fabricio Werdum and Renato Sobral; they ran a Jiu Jitsu League in Colorado and have been an ever present on the mats around America for many years. They would be the first to admit they have never been purely a BJJ brand, known in the sport more for MMA equipment than BJJ gis, however this is really set to change over the coming months.
In a recent video release about the making of the signature ‘Venice’ Gi, Alex Wright, Revgear’s brand director stated that as a brand they had made a clear decision to return to their roots and vastly expand their presence in the Jiu Jitsu world, very much in his view taking their rightful place in the space.
Alex Wright, Revgear’s Brand director states: “We were there from the beginning when brands like Vitamins and Minerals, Hunter and Keiko Raca were around. Whereas the mentioned brands were all Brazilian, REVGEAR were one of the original American brands to be in the sport. We’re really returning to our roots by getting more involved with the Jiu Jitsu scene again”.
On Jits Magazine
“It was great to team up with such a respected online magazine like Jits Magazine. We both share such a passion for the sport and even a first name lol. We said we would sponsor the rankings but once we started talking we realized there was so much more value we could add to one another’s media so we said let’s roll!”
Jits Magazine BJJ Rankings Sponsor
As some may know, Jits Magazine has been working on a BJJ ranking system which was how the initial talks came about with the American brand offering to sponsor the rankings. However, discussions between Alex Lindsey (Jits Magazine) and Alex Wright (REVGEAR) quickly progressed with the two guys clearly having much in common. Both having practiced Jiu-Jitsu for a long time, sharing a passion for the sport, and of course having the same first name!
The Future
Alex Wright from REVGEAR is going to add in a regular column with the magazine on some of the aspects of the industry rarely seen from the outside. His new column will deal with subjects such as winning the sponsorship game, the role of fight brands in the sport and the emergence of the global Jiu Jitsu subculture were some of the ideas mentioned.
On top of that, REVGEAR will introduce some of their many athletes to the magazine bringing inside industry information to the community, new interviews and features.
