Mikey Musumeci will now be facing Keven Carrasco in the main event at UFC BJJ 3 on October 2nd, 2025. Musumeci’s bantamweight title will be on the line and this marks the first time that he has attempted to defend it. He’s the only champion that the division has ever known, as he won the inaugural title by submitting Rerisson Gabriel back at UFC BJJ 1 earlier this year. He was also the promotion’s first champion that didn’t have to fight their way through a reality show tournament, as both of the other champions at that event were crowned after UFC BJJ: Road to the Title 1.
Although Musumeci has been the first man to do many things in the UFC’s brand new grappling promotion, he was beaten to the punch when it comes to the first title-defense. That honour went to Andrew Tackett at UFC BJJ 2, when he defended the welterweight title almost immediately after winning it. This was always the plan for Musumeci though, as he was booked to compete at this event long before his opponent was finalised. In fact the original plan was for him to have his long-awaited rematch with Geo Martinez, but that appears to have fallen through for unknown reasons.
Now he will be facing Keven Carrasco instead, who is a new opponent for Mikey Musumeci. Carrasco is at least already familiar with the UFC BJJ setup, as he competed at their first event alongside Musumeci and got a submission win over Ty Costlow in the first match. That appears to have been enough to earn him a shot at the champion immediately, coupled with a string of solid performances prior to that. Carrasco doesn’t have anywhere near the resume that Musumeci has of course, but he has medalled at the IBJJF World Championship and holds wins over some big names like Cleber Sousa.
