Mikey Musumeci is one of the most successful BJJ competitors on the planet and now he’s decided to share the results of his most recent PEDs test with the public. The outcome shouldn’t really surprise anyone, given that Musumeci is one of the most outspoken advocates for a cleaner sport. He’s been against PEDs for his entire career, but in recent years he’s become particularly open about the rampant use of them within professional grappling.
He’s far from the only competitor with these views of course, and other top grapplers like Michelle Nicolini have questioned the lack of punishment for athletes using PEDs. There are other elite competitors who have made their views public from the start of their career and have made it a large part of their personal brand, like Roberto Jimenez and the Ruotolo brothers. Thanks to these athletes and several others starting to campaign for a cleaner sport, the wider BJJ community is starting to wake up and pay attention to the use and abuse of PEDs in competition.
The PEDs test that Mikey Musumeci took was administered in-competition by officials at ONE Championship, as it was part of the most recent title-defense he made against Osamah Almarwai. The fact that ONE Championship are actually testing their grapplers is only a positive development of course, and with other competitors even choosing to submit to voluntary testing, this shows that BJJ is moving further towards becoming a clean sport. There’s still a long way to go of course and many of the sport’s major promotions choose to not only avoid testing, but also disregard the results of testing from other organizations.
Mikey Musumeci revealed the results from the recent PEDs test that he took in order to compete for ONE Championship in a recent post to his official Instagram account:
