Mikey Musumeci recently took some shots at Gordon Ryan in relation to usage of PEDs and it didn’t take long for Ryan to fire back with some shade of his own. It all started when Musumeci took part in an interview with Demetrious Johnson, covering a wide range of topics like children in BJJ using PEDs. They only came on to the topic of PEDs when Johnson asked Musumeci about those in the sport who dislike him. He was very clear in explaining why he believes he attracts some negative attention and according to him, it boils down to one thing primarily:
“They don’t like change, they want everything to stay the same. They want no drug testing, all these things they are for… So many of those top athletes, they’ve taken so much.”
With the topic of conversation turning to PEDs, Musumeci immediately referenced the top no gi grappler in the sport:
“I think we’re both very healthy, like young, like our bodies. Let me just make an example… So Gordon Ryan is one year older than me, he looks like he’s 40. Are we one year apart, like how is that possible?!… All the guys on steroids, their bodies age like 20 years. That’s what I’m saying. My body’s like 20, his body’s like 40.”

Shortly after the video was released, Musumeci was stripped of his ONE Championship flyweight title after missing weight and failing the hydration test for his match at ONE 168. The news came as a shock to everyone, as he has historically won and defended the belt without ever having any issues making weight. A large part of the trouble was due to Musumeci taking the match on short notice, to replace an existing lightweight bout with Kade Ruotolo that fell through at the last minute. Although Mikey Musumeci might have had an explanation for missing weight, it didn’t take long for Gordon Ryan to respond to the PEDs accusations and make a joke at his expense:
