Midwest Finishers 13 took place on April 1st, 2023 and the promotion put together two fantastic tournaments along with several exciting superfights throughout. The women’s 125lbs division produced some very memorable moments right from the start, as 10th Planet‘s Lauren Sears locked up an incredibly rare submission in the opening round against Courtney LaBuy. She couldn’t stop Alex Nguyen from emerging victorious though as she put in a fantastic performance to win the tournament. Nguyen submitted all three of her opponents, including Sears in the semi-final, and left with the promotion’s title.
The men’s 155lbs tournament was equally exciting, and it featured an additional round as there was 16 competitors instead of just 8. Max Hanson looked absolutely unstoppable during his run to the final as he submitted Adrian del Toro with a rear-naked choke in the opening round, and both Hashir Azam and David Garcia with outside heelhooks in the next rounds. He had a really fun match with Anthony Valdes in the final and he managed to generate one of the most nail-biting moments of Midwest Finishers 13 when he finished an armbar in the final second of EBI overtime to secure the win.
