Michael ‘Venom’ Page and Carlos Condit will be meeting in a grappling match in the main event of Polaris 30 on November 2nd, 2024. It’s an unusual matchup given that Page is known as a striker first and foremost, and Condit has been retired from MMA for around 3 years. Regardless, it’s still going to produce plenty of exciting moments thanks to the fact that Page is known for his desire to entertain the audience and Condit has relentlessly hunted for the submission finish throughout his career. It’s not the only great match announced for the event either, as Helena Crevar will be making her first lightweight title-defense against top UK prospect Nia Blackman.
It’ll be very interesting to see just how good Page is on the ground too, as he’s only shown brief glimpses of what he’s capable of in his MMA career. That’s because Page started out as a kickboxer originally, winning multiple world titles in the sport before transitioning to MMA. He was immediately popular thanks to his flashy striking style and tendency to knock out every opponent he faced. He spent most of his career at Bellator with a few stints in boxing and bare-knuckle boxing, before eventually making the move to the UFC a little under a year ago now.
Page has gone 1-1 in the UFC since then and currently holds a 22-3 professional record with 3 submission wins, so it’s not as if he’s never had to use his grappling before. Condit on the other hand was an excellent grappler and he retired with a 32-14 professional record that included 13 submission wins over some of the top welterweight fighters of his generation. He’s also been active on the submission grappling scene since retiring, including a match against Ashley Williams back at Polaris 22. It seems like the promotion must have enjoyed having him the first time around, and now they’ve given a much more winnable matchup in Page.
