Meyram Maquine has just stepped in as a late replacement and joined the Polaris Squad for their upcoming cross-promotional battle at Polaris 35 on January 31st, 2026. Maquine will now be their third competitor in the under 75kg division, replacing an injured Matheus Szczecinski who has had to withdraw. Although Szczecinski’s withdrawal will obviously come as a bit of a blow for the team, Maquine is an incredible replacement who is just as dangerous. The other 5 members of the Polaris Squad are all still able to make it and with a replacement like Maquine on hand, they still have a great chance of coming out on top.

They will be facing the Who’s Number One Squad at the event for 80 minutes of wild matches where both teams will be going all out to get the win for their respective promotions. Originally the Polaris Squad was going to be the European team who won the inaugural Intercontinental Championship last year, but now they’ve made two changes to the lineup of 6 competitors. Maquine is the second after they first announced that they were bringing Lucas Kanard on board to replace Jozef Chen; an interesting choice as Kanard actually won two decisions over Chen in the final of that tournament.

Maquine might seem like an unusual choice at first given that he’s never actually competed for Polaris before, but he did sign an exclusive European contract with them last year. This will be the first appearance of that contract and it’s an excellent way for him to make his promotional debut, as he’ll undoubtedly get plenty of time on the mat. Maquine is known as a gi specialist primarily but he has some no gi experience previously and he recently returned to the format, getting a huge win over Owen Jones at BJJ Stars 18. Now he will be competing alongside Jones instead of against him, as they will both be members of the Polaris Squad.

The full Polaris 35 event, including Meyram Maquine as part of the Polaris Squad, will be available to watch live on January 31st, 2026 on FloGrappling, click here to subscribe and watch.
