Facebook founder and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has just been promoted to blue belt in BJJ by his coach, Dave Camarillo at Guerilla Jiu-Jitsu. Zuckerberg is one of the original kings of the social media world and he’s been getting heavily involved in both MMA and BJJ for quite some time now, so it’s no surprise that he’s been promoted above the rank of white belt. He tried out both sports a few years ago and he even went on an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience to explain how quickly he’d fallen in love with the sport:
“The question isn’t how did I get into it, it’s how did I not know about it until right now? From, like, the very first session that I did, like, five minutes in—where has this been my whole life?”
Then earlier this year, Zuckerberg decided to jump into the unknown and step onto the competition mats for the first time. He actually gave a good account of himself too, not only managing to win a match but also winning a medal too. When footage of the victory emerged, he drew lots of praise from all corners of the BJJ world because he’d put himself out there as someone who would have had a lot of attention on him from the start.
Zuckerberg has stayed with the same coach throughout his BJJ journey so far, and has clearly learned a lot under Dave Camarillo. He’s also had some good training partners available to him too, as he was recently seen getting some rounds in with elite BJJ competitor Mikey Musumeci. After a few years of training under and alongside skilled BJJ black belts and a solid competition result in the bank, Mark Zuckerberg has now been promoted to blue belt. It’ll be interesting to see where he goes from here, and if we end up seeing him stepping on the mats to compete at this level.
Mark Zuckerberg announced the news that he had been promoted to blue belt in BJJ in a recent post to his official Instagram account:
