Mackenzie Dern earned her revenge in style against Amanda Ribas at UFC Vegas 101 on January 11th, 2025. It was a huge moment for Dern, as she had been looking forward to it since she lost the first fight with Ribas all the way back in 2019. She was open about the challenges she faced during their first fight in the lead-up to the rematch and now that things were different, she was hopeful that the outcome would be different too. Not least of all because both women were ranked in the top 10 of the UFC strawweight division and a win would put her one step closer to the long-awaited title-shot.
The rest of the card served as a fantastic build-up too, as most of the fights ended in finishes and fans were treated to some spectacular action. The fight between Dern and Ribas was no different either, as both women were willing to put it all on the line from the start. The striking was fairly equal but there were clear signs that Dern was significantly better than Ribas in the ground in both of the first two rounds. That advantage paid off in a huge way in the third round as Dern was able to use the threat of an armbar to sweep Ribas into full mount, before latching on to another armbar that forced her to tap.
