The Combat Jiu-Jitsu Bantamweight World Championship 2023 is scheduled for July 30th, 2023 and the initial lineup for the tournament has just been announced. The competition ruleset was originally created by Eddie Bravo, and after years of Combat Jiu-Jitsu events it’s become clear that the format is a popular one amongst fans of the sport. This will actually be the second edition of the tournament this year, as the Combat Jiu-Jitsu Welterweight World Championship took place back in March. If that tournament is anything to go by, there will be plenty of action and even a few surprises when the bantamweights hit the mats later this year.
One of the favourites heading into the tournament is the reigning Combat Jiu-Jitsu bantamweight world champion Elias Anderson. It’s been quite a while since the title was last on the line in this weight class though, and a lot has changed since then. Anderson emerged victorious and won the title all the way back in 2021, but the field of competitors will be different and any that are the same will have developed their skillsets tremendously since then. Anderson will have some tough opposition from Richard Alarcon, the man he beat in the final that year and the former bantamweight champion before him.
There are other Combat Jiu-Jitsu veterans who’ve found the success in the ruleset too, as David Weintraub, Manuel Focil, and Gabriel Austin Daffron have all won smaller events. Marcelo Cohen and Zack Schneider will also be returning after previously attempting to win the event back in 2021, with Yuki Takahashi, Joseph Morales, and Manny Vasquez all representing a fresh challenge for the returning champion. There will be more competitors added to the lineup for the Combat Jiu-Jitsu Bantamweight World Championship 2023 in the coming weeks, ready for it all to kick off on July 30th.
